 The Zonta Club Greater Sandusky was organized in 1961 as the 480th Club to receive a charter from Zonta International. 

Our Primary Service and Program emphases are:

  • Advocacy
  • Essentials for Living

Local projects include Scholarships, support a home for domestic violence victims, and numerous other community service projects.

Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. With more than 30,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 64 countries and geographic areas, Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta's mission and objectives.


  • To improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women at the global and local level through service and advocacy.
  • To work for the advancement of understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions.
  • To promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

If you are interested in joining this thriving community of caring women, membership is easy. You may qualify for membership by being actively engaged in or having experience in a recognized business or profession in a decision-making capacity. You must be recommended by a current member and approved for an invitation. We pride ourselves on being a diverse group of women, with many gifts and talents to share, due to our various careers. To contact a member and begin the process, please email your interest to: president@sanduskyzonta.org Estimated annual dues, after the first year, are $118.00 annually, along with meals expenses, which are pre-paid.

 The Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky meets once a month for a business meeting dinner at 5:30 p.m. Meetings are highlighted with hands-on service activities or interesting speakers/programs. Visiting Zontian's are always welcomed to attend our meetings. Please contact president@sanduskyzonta.org

 Fellowship: Primary duties - plan annual installation banquet, plan meeting meals and locations, coordinate networking opportunities at meetings engaging members socially; offer opportunities to other local community clubs and organizations to 'team up' and network together; coordinate distribution of flowers/cards for 'get well' wishes, etc. 

Finance Committee: Primary duties – prepare annual budget, review monthly Treasurer’s report, arrange for annual audit of books and follow guidelines for investment of Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky Area Fund assets as outlined in the club’s Investment Policy and submit recommendations to the Board.

Nominating Committee: It shall be the duty of the Nominating Committee to nominate one (1) or more members for each office or directorship to be filled at the annual election, and to nominate at least three (3) members for the next term's Nominating Committee.

Membership Committee: This committee has three main functions; 1) Coordinate the communication of all meeting and event reminders 2) Recruit new members and retain current members 3) Prepare and update the club membership booklet annually.

Policy: The duties of this Committee shall be to review the Bylaws of the Club, codify previous actions, and recommend changes or new policies for Club consideration.

Public Relations and Communications: Publicize and inform both the membership and the public about Zonta events, fundraisers and programs, review all media articles, publish monthly club newsletter and maintain club web site.

Non Traditional Scholarship Fund Committee: The purpose of the this Fund was to establish a Scholarship for one non-traditional adult woman returning to school each year. This committee will solicit applications and select the recipient. They also oversee the investment of the funds in conjunction with the Finance Committee.

Service Committee: This committee embodies all local Zontian activity directly empowering Zonta’s mission statement: Zonta International is a worldwide organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.

Ways & Means: This committee’s primary function shall be to research, plan and execute fundraising events that will support the budget of the Service Committee’s service projects.

  • Work together on strategic issues advancing the status of women with other Zonta International committees and additional key stakeholders.
  • Increase visibility of issues and actions to end violence against women, advance equal rights and opportunities, and ensure justice under good laws at all levels of Zonta.
  • Enable members, clubs and districts to become more effective advocates.
  • Become a leading advocate on status of women issues per CEDAW Articles 1-16.

Service to the community

 Scholarships:


1)  Non Traditional adult woman returning to school to upgrade her education for a better career.  

 The award is for any woman 23 years old or older who resides in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, or Sandusky counties in Ohio. 


2)  Awards 3-4 college scholarships each year to Erie County High School seniors planning to major in science or math.


 3)  In coordination with Sandusky-Erie County Community Foundation, Zonta awards 2 seniors who plan to major in business. 




2020 HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

  

Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky is pleased to announce Olivia C. Schnittker, daughter of Ronald and Barbara Schnittker, as the recipient of the High School Scholarship representing Perkins High School.  Olivia's honors while attending PHS include:  Honor Roll every quarter throughout high school, Diploma of Distinction PHS 2020 graduation, Honors Diploma PHS 2020 graduation, Scholar Athlete - 9th - 12th grade, National Honor Society - 11th & 12th grade and BGSU Firelands CCP Student on the Dean's List and earning a BGSU Associate of Science Degree May 2020. Olivia plans to attend Otterbein University Double Major in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry on Pre-Med Path.


  

Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky is pleased to announce Mackenzie Wilson, daughter of Steve and Sandra Wilson, as the recipient of the High School Scholarship representing Edison High School. Mackenzie's honors while attending EHS include: Edison High School Student of the Month for November 2019, Hustle Award (volleyball 2019), National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and Teen Leadership Corp.  Mackenzie plans to attend Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing.

  

Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky is pleased to announce Haley Ritchie, daughter of Julie and Scott Ritchie, as the recipient of the High School Scholarship representing Vermilion High School. Haley's honors while attending VHS include: Lion's Club Student of the month, IAP Scholar, Gold Plume Award, Academic Award of Excellence, Model UN Outstanding Position Paper Award and Buckeye Girls State. Haley plans to attend The University of Findlay, majoring in Environmental Health, Safety,and Sustainability. 

 

Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky is pleased to announce Julia Bowen Loeffler, daughter of Bo and Julie Loeffler, as the recipient of the Young Women in Public Affairs Award representing St. Mary's Central Catholic School.  Julia's honors at SMCC include:  Julia Olah Foreign Language Scholarship, Philip J. Pole Scholarship, Scholar Athlete Awards and National Honor Society. 




Buckeye Girls State: Support a local representative each year.

Centennial celebration

 

The City of Sandusky celebrated Zonta International’s 100th Anniversary, and our local club’s 58 years of serving Erie County and surrounding areas, with a Proclamation Ceremony in Nov. 2019.  Zonta strives to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.
